Foods For Eye Health

I always tell my clients, “You only get one body in this life…feed it well.” They always assume I mean from the head down. However, I truly mean eating well means eating for your whole body from head to feet. It’s commonly known that eating foods low in fat, high in fiber and those that have many needed nutrients will keep your brain and body in good working condition, but what about your eyes?

Our eyes need nutrients, too. Some nutrients help to prevent cataracts, macular degeneration, glaucoma and dryness. Examples of some whole foods to choose for better eye health are kale, berries, sweet potatoes, and salmon. Oh, and green tea is the eye health beverage of choice for those of you who are tea drinkers.

Another super easy way to ensure your eyes stay healthy is by adding Chia seeds to your daily regimen. Chia seeds are high in omega 3s, calcium, fiber and antioxidants. These little seeds, or “nutritional powerhouses” as I usually call them, can help to reduce the oxidative damage of the eye lens and retina to promote overall eye health. Add a scoop to your favorite smoothie, yogurt, oatmeal or cereal and see a brighter year ahead.

One last tip: always remember to drink plenty of fluids with chia seeds or any high fiber food to keep your body in balance in 2020.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy and crystal-clear year ahead!
