How to Stay Hydrated this Summer
It’s starting to feel like summer out there! The temperature keeps rising and I am so happy to be able to be out and about, mask and all. However, now more than ever, it’s important to remember to stay hydrated. I know that I have to remind myself to drink, especially when I am in my mask for extended periods of time.
Most are Chronically Dehydrated
You may not know that about 75% of Americans walk around chronically dehydrated (and that was the case even before we all had to wear masks). Also, it’s important to know that by the time you are thirsty, you are actually dehydrated. And, if you are tired, irritable, or are having trouble concentrating, check your fluid intake. These are some telltale signs you may be dehydrated.
How You Can Make Water Taste Better
You may be thinking that water is so bland and boring that it’s too hard to drink it all day long. Well, you are not alone because I hear that from my clients often. The question is always, “what else can I drink?” The trick, I have found, is to add some pizazz to your water. I love to mix it up. Literally. Sometimes I add fresh fruit, like watermelon, cucumber or lemon. Other times I reach for my favorite superfood powders from Carrington Farms.
My latest obsession is to add Matcha powder to a glass of water with honey and fresh mint! It’s refreshing, delicious, and offers all the health benefits of Matcha. Or, if I’m in the mood for something a little fruitier, I mix water with Pomegranate powder or Goji powder, and sweeten to taste. I feel good knowing that I’m getting some very important nutrients my body needs to stay healthy and hydrated all in one glass.
Staying Hydrated is Easy
Staying hydrated and healthy can be easy. The key is to add something to water that flavors it just the way you like it, so you drink it all up. Before you know it, you are happy, focused, and full of energy, all because you are adequately hydrated.
