What is a superfood and how is it different from other foods?
The question I’m often asked since the term “superfood” is thrown aroundquite a bit. A superfood is usually a plant-based, whole, unprocessed food that is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. In other words, it’snutrient-dense and chock full of healthy goodness. Here are three of my favorites listed below:
- Goji Berry Powder
Goji berry powder is high in vitamins A and C, fiber, iron, zinc, and rich in antioxidants. These berries have been touted to have numerous health benefits, ranging from protecting the eyes and skin to improving depression and anxiety to providing immune support. Just add goji berry powder to almost any smoothie orsprinkle it on any cereal, yogurt, oatmeal or granola. You can even mix the powder with water to make a delicious juice. It’s that easy to rev up your nutritional intake.
- Pomegranate Powder
Pomegranate powder is a rich source of vitamin C, antioxidants, potassium, and folate and may play a protective role in heart and prostate health. Add it to any smoothie or oatmeal to lend a fruity flavor. Or, stir it into honey, tea, or even your favorite salad dressing or stew. If you are really looking for something fun to do with it, you can use it when you make ice cream or as a natural pink food coloring for your favorite frosting when you bake. The possibilities are endless with this sweet, tangy powder.
- Beet Root Powder
Beet Root powder is filled with important nutrients, such as iron, calcium, potassium, fiber, folate, and vitamin C. Beet root may help lower both blood pressure and the risk of heart disease and boost endurance in athletes. Use it in gravies, sauces, or soups, or to add a beautiful red color to any recipe. It is truly a versatile powder for all your cooking and baking needs.
Well, that’s the scoop (pun intended) on my go-to superfood powders these days. They are nutritious, delicious and easy to incorporate into all my favorite foods. Check out our other superfood powder options, start eating nutritious food with Carrington Farms today!
