Lose Weight Eating In Moderation
Hello, 2023!! It’s a new year and time to start fresh. We may not be out of our COVID darkness yet, but we can see the flickering light in the horizon. Maybe you have decided to lose those pandemic pounds. What is the right way to lose weight? I can sum it up in two words- “mindful moderation.”
The way to take the weight off and keep it off is to change the way you look at food.
- Increase your intake of nutritious foods, such as lean protein, fruits and vegetables and decrease your intake of highly caloric foods with no nutritional value, such as fried foods, baked goods, and highly processed foods.
- Make sure that it’s not an all or nothing undertaking. That mindset sets people up for falling short of their goals.
- All the foods you eat should be flavored well, with seasonings and your favorite oils. It’s important to add healthy fats and flavor to meals for satiety.
The human body needs fat for important processes, such as protecting our vital organs and absorbing important fat-soluble vitamins.
Think about it- if you are not satisfied with your food, you will continue to eat until you are, unwittingly increasing caloric intake. There is no quick fix for weight loss. It is attained over time and if done right, will last beyond the latest nutrition fad.
My advice is to be mindful of your portions, eat more lean protein, fruits, vegetables, and other nutritious foods, like flax & chia seeds and legumes while still enjoying some of the less healthy foods you love in small amounts.
Make sure you add in an appropriate amount of exercise and hydrate well. Read the nutrition facts label and ingredients on the food you buy for your family. And, if you need more help, seek the guidance of a registered dietitian who has the education to really help you meet your goals.
Here’s to a safe, happy, and healthy 2023! Let’s all start the year off right and Eat better, to Feel better, to Live better!TM
